Ultra-Specific and Ultra-Sensitive Platform for Highly-Reliable and High-Precision SARS-CoV-2 Detection

Case ID:
20-1603

Background:

The technology described is based on the use of two unique sets of detection molecules that are specific to a protein contained in the viral shell of SARS CoV-2 and Covid-19 that is unique from other known common cold causing coronaviruses.  The proposed system uses two different fluorescent probes for two different regions of the viral shell protein gene.  The two probes fluoresce at widely different wavelengths that can be detected simultaneously with the proper equipment.

Benefits:

  • The use of PCR reduces the size of the sample needed for accurate detection.
  • The use of two different primers with two different probes ensures increased sensitivity and specificity of the method.
